Grinding

So far grinding has only been used as quality improvement of surface area and accuracy of fit of already rough-worked components in the finishing stage.

As a result of further development of the grinding process and grinding machines one can now remove a great amount of material in a short period of time. Recently this has only been possible using planing, milling or turning and thus in many cases a component is grinded just after the casting and forming process.
A very flexible control mode and adapted grinding tools enable pre-machining and finishing to take place at a single machine in the context of single- or multi-stage procedures of grinding.

The crucial grinding result is the component’s quality, in which case specific attention is drawn to the component’s roughness, dimension and shape accuracy as well as to the condition of the surface edge zones.
A further important aspect is the grinding’s efficiency: production time, tool costs and output are all to be taken into account. Particularly tool costs are here significantly influenced by heavy wear of the grinding wheel.
