Lapping / Precision grinding

In lapping / precision grinding tool and surface area of the processed component slide on each other. This relative movement between lapping disc and component has the effect that grains of the lapping agent achieve a certain rolling motion, in which case peaks of the lapping grains crush into the material of the component and induce micro-cracks. The indentation depth amounts to 5 to 10 % of the largest grains. Small material particles of the component break out and sum up to a quantifiable material removal.

Product advantages of the component

Narrow dimension tolerance (up to IT 3)
High surface finish (up to 0.1 µ)
High accuracy of shape

Advantages of the lapping process

Nearly all components are processed without clamping

Apparatuses are seldomly used as the to be processed surface constitutes the plane of reference at the same time

Even slim and fragile pieces from 1 mm of thickness can be processed
Auch bei Verbundwerkstoffen ist ein gleichmäßiger Abtrag gewährleistet
Lapped surfaces do not show surface tension
Lapped gas- and liquid-tight separation planes save sealant
